After weeks of purposefully avoiding Sage in our one shared class, I went in to sit next to him. I got there early enough so that the 300-seat auditorium wasn't full, and luckily, there was an empty seat right next to Sage where he sat near the very back.

I sat down in the seat and put my backpack on the floor between my feet. Sage was staring off into space, but as soon as I sat, he looked at me with eyes wide.

"Sam?"

I was temporarily stunned by the excitement on his face that showed at seeing me, but it quickly disappeared to be replaced by what I thought the reaction would be.

"Nice move with that statue," he muttered.

I grinned as he sulked. He leaned back in his seat and tried to look away from me.

"Thanks. We thought it was a pretty nice decoration for you guys. It really shows the rest of the university what you guys are like."

"Very funny," he said. "You have no idea the trouble that caused."

I perked up and smiled even more. "We've got five or ten minutes before class," I said. "Why don't you tell me?"

"Oh, you'd like that, wouldn't you?" he said with a sigh. He thought it over for a moment before continuing on. "It cost several hundred dollars to get it removed. That had to come out of our pockets, you know. Blaine is looking into getting our insurance to cover some of it, but believe it or not, that's not typically something covered."

I laughed. "Well, I'm sure a few hundred dollars is nothing to you guys. One of your daddies probably gave it to you, right?"

"You're very funny," Sage said in a genuinely annoyed tone. It's how I could tell that I was right. "That wasn't even the worst of it. There were so many people visiting and yelling and taking videos and pictures. Our yard is ruined now. Brothers who have graduated certainly aren't very happy with the image that's being put up online about us."

"Then I guess we did our job," I said with a shrug.

Sage opened his mouth, giving me a venomous look for the first time since we had met. I had gotten under his skin. However, he thought better of saying anything. He shook his head and muttered under his breath instead.

"Still think we can be a couple and also be in a prank war? Or are you finally seeing how foolish that thought was?"

"I get it," he said. "This is hard. I'm actually kind of mad at you. I don't like this side of you."

I paused, my mouth falling open in surprise. I wasn't expecting that from him. It was a little bit too real and too biting into my character. My heart had begun to ache, so I had to come up with a retort.

"Well, I didn't like the side of you who betrayed me and tagged my wall. So we're even now."

We sat in silence then, waiting for the professor to begin the lecture.
